Devlog 2 - Building Level 1 and challenges

Hey everyone!

We've got another update on the game development, and it's been quite the ride.

Originally, the idea was pretty straightforward: the player would hit ghosts with pumpkins and collect toys. But, as often happens in game development, things evolved as we dove deeper into the process. One of our first major challenges? Animations. We really struggled with getting our main character to move properly. In fact, during our initial attempts, the character hilariously floated in mid-air—it was funny but definitely not what we were going for!

After some trial and error (and lots of laughs), we finally got the walking animations working.  Between that and balancing our busy schedules with unexpected commitments, we decided to focus the game on just Level 1 for now. What started as a toy-collecting game with pumpkins and ghosts turned into a timed toy-collecting challenge. We questioned this change many times, but in the end, we rolled with it. Sometimes, you've just got to trust the process!

Next up, designing Level 1. We had a rough vision: spooky graves, eerie dead trees, scattered skulls—you know, classic haunted vibes. We split the map into sections of graves and pathways.

With the basic layout in place, we added the ghosts and ran a few tests to see how everything worked. Honestly, we were kind of happy with the results, but the ghosts turned out to be so adorable that we couldn't help but get caught by them several times, just for fun!

That’s it for now, but we’ll have more updates coming soon! Stay tuned!
